Camp Fareta

California, United States

2007-07-08 until 2007-07-15

Babacar and Cheikh will be returning to Camp Fareta to teach Sabar dance and drum! They will be arriving Wednesday, July 11, and will teach classes through the final weekend of camp. You gotta be there!
We’ll also be bringing N’deye N’Diaye to teach a Sabar dance class or two in the later part of camp. She’s new on the scene and we think she’s gonna be great!
And in case you’ve been wondering, Djeneba’s drummer will be Malé Fainkhe, who is also from Mali, of course. We’re excited to have him join Camp Fareta this year – come on out and make him feel welcome! (Moussa Traore is having hand surgery in July – let’s all send him some positive, healing vibrations.)

Wadaba Kourouma, a master drummer from a more remote, inland part of Guinea, will also be joining us, teaching drum classes at camp – a rare treat, especially for the serious drummer. Drummers, please let us know you’re coming to camp, because then this year we can arrange to have simultaneous classes divided into different levels. (We expect to have a daily beginner's dance class as well, plus yoga most mornings.)

Also I will be away June 14-24 and will only check email occasionally, so we are extending the regular registration rates to July 2. For registrations postmarked after July 2 (which might not be received before we leave to go to camp) or for anyone who shows up on site who has not pre-registered, there will be a $20 late fee per individual or family. This is meant to encourage y'all to PREGISTER! We want meals to be abundant and we want to be sure to have enough counselors for Kids Camp…if lots of folks show up unexpectedly, it makes it harder for us to plan. So now’s the time to commit!!!

Be sure to check Youssouf’s website, westafricandance.com, for more info, or if you want to see lots of photos from last year’s camp, check dancingvillage.com, where you can also get all the information you need. Thanks, everyone, for your enthusiasm and positive energy – it’s gonna be another great camp, so spread the word and invite your friends!
