Back To The Roots 2007 A not-to-be missed experience for anyone who has love of rhythm! This intensive three day program of workshops taught by internationally acclaimed musicians, performers and teachers will cover a wide range of traditions and forms. With workshops tailored to all experience levels, all are encouraged to join us for a rhythm-filled weekend of joyful community. The camp will be held in beautiful Serpentine, Western Australia and all lodging and meals are included. Back to the Roots 2007 is the brainchild of Percussionist Freddy Poncin whose virtuosity and enthusiasm have inspired his audiences and students alike. Other instructors include Rajaju member Julian Silburn, whose passion for the Didgeridoo inspires his students to deepen their connection with the rhythm and sounds of nature, Ziggy Bey Jan who will teach you the traditional way of Sabar drumming from Senegal, Veronique Thomann and Kwame Selorney from Afrotonic who will get you to your feet with a fantastic fusion of African and contemporary dance traditions mixed with fitness. Our main instructors are: Master drummer and griot Mohamed Bangoura alias Bangourake from Guinee. The griot Bangourake is a former member of Percussion de Guinee, Mohamed is one of the world’s top djembe masters and instructors. This amazing performer will teach traditional djembe rhythms, technique, solo patterns and dance. Sibo Bangoura was born and raised in a Griot family in Conakry, Guinee. He has performed with some of the best drum and dance groups in Guinea including Les Percussions de Guinee Junior and Ballet Matam. Sibo is an absolute djembe virtuoso and new to the 2007 camp!
