Francois Dembele drum & dance camp in Mali, Feb-Mar 2011

francois souleymane dembele, 18 year veteran and first soloist of the ballet national du mali, will be teaching a 10 day workshop in bamako, mali. dates not finalised yet. watch this space!



leading the dance will be issa ba, director of the ballet du district de bamako.

workshops are of advanced level and will focus on learning traditional sounds, work on techniques and attacks, and solo techniques. depending on participants, a second level (intermediate/beginner) will be established.

there is also the opportunity to attend performances and traditional festivals, and to accompany rehearsals of the ballet du district de bamako. there is also an additional trip possible to segou, djenne (mosque), mopti (port, ride pinnace) and surrounds on the weekend of 27/28 february.

cost: €620 including tuition, accommodation and all meals for the 10 days and transport to/from the airport. participants may extend the course to an extra 1 1/2 hours tuition per day (djembe, dance or bala) for an extra €100.
