A not-to-be missed experience for anyone who has love of rhythm! This intensive three day program of workshops taught by internationally acclaimed musicians, performers and teachers will cover a wide range of traditions and forms. With workshops tailored to all experience lev­els, all are encouraged to join us for a rhythm-filled weekend of joyful community. The camp will be held in beautiful Serpentine, Western Australia and all lodging and meals are included.

Back to the Roots 2011 is the brainchild of Percussionist Freddy Poncin. Other instructors include Master Sabar player Djibril Diagne who will teach you the traditional way of Sabar drumming from Senegal, Michael Boase instructs Samba Drumming and Freddy will also teach latin percussion.

Our main instructors are:
Master drummer and griot Mohamed Bangoura alias BANGOURAKE from Guinee. The griot Bangourake is a former member of Percussion de Guinee, Mohamed is one of the world’s top djembe masters and instructors. This amazing performer will teach traditional djembe rhythms, technique, solo patterns and dance.

Dance Teacher Aicha Keita, started dancing at the age of 7yrs training with Ballet Matam, a local dance troupe and academy in her home city of Conakry in the Republic of Guinea. Although originally trained in traditional Guinean dance, has also danced other African styes including Senegalese Sabar and Zulu traditional forms. She is also familiar with Western forms including Hip-Hop and Contemporary Dance.

The price for the weekend is $350.00
Children half price and students 25%off (need i.d.)

This includes: All workshops, accommodation, meals and lots of fun! One day visits are possible by request only, but we prefer to make it a weekend experience!
