Why do you want to make it thicker? Are you afraid it'll break?

If so, the only option I'm aware of would be to use fibreglass reinforcement on the inside. A lot of work, and possibly not worth doing. It might be easier to get a different djembe.

I recently acquired a very badly lathe-turned shell that indented right below the top of the bearing edge. I reinforced it with wood putty and two-part epoxy. I haven't put the head on yet, will let you know how it works out!
