Thanks for the discography suggestions and all the clips! That's a lot of material to digest, which is what I plan to do now:)

Are there any videos of soliba/balakulania/soli lent dancing in Africa? Is it a group or solo dance?
I only some dance class videos found on youtube.

Good question. Usually it's not either or. Most often dancing starts in the group and in the more heated section gives room for individual dancers. Not completely sure but I very much believe this holds true for soliba as well.

Hi, guys. Just one question: the rhythm fura that people've been talking about isn't this one, is it?

Right, it isn't. Wondered about its title myself when I saw this one. I guess its the same occasion that makes the same title, circumcision...

Kind of hard to hear for me from the video on the smartphone. Could it be suku/soli? Cause it is sometimes called fura too. The occasion, like soli and soliba...

Dansa and Soli have a different character indeed, as I mentionned a modification. But they are close enough to be related, and the more I play, the more I understand why he said this. Simply try to play the usual Dansa dunun part over any of the previously mentioned recordings.

I just noticed this thread
free-lessons-this-site-f11/heres-one-yo ... t2300.html

Here it's called Fura, it's the Malian name for the same thing. Hans gives nice set of solo phrases there.
