So called "african swing" or "playing in between" is not something exclusive, found only in african traditional music. This is a misconception. It is used also in jazz (especially "swing"), funk, hip hop and other modern musical genres, which are actually strongly infuenced with african traditional rhythmical heritage.korman wrote:Yeah, but he shows straight/triplet/dotted, but the swing we're looking for is inbetween those
Listen carefully to ride pattern in the third, "straight" variation . It is played "straight" but pushing accents very much toward the triplet time signature.
