Discuss drumming technique here

Hi all,

I came across this video from Harouna Dembele: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q17fp3Eggc4

His slaps(?) at 4:50 provide really impressive sound (despite the video switching to mono at an early stage) and I was wondering whether this is what some people address as tonpalo?

Besides I was lucky to have a weekend workshop with Harouna last summer, playing Didadi, too. Not the one attached though. He is really really great, a lot of fun and (yes) hard work, too! Among the best workshops I ever had.

Best regards,

You are correct. There is a lengthy discussion on this forum about it. Do a search for Signature slap or 3rd slap and you will find it.

Well, I am in the same dilema about the use of slap in the Heremankono video of Bete at 1: 44 second: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6zoh93TqUNo. Muffled slap or Tonpalo?...I don't know really...Sounds maybe a litlle to resonant for muffled slap to me. Greetings from Slovenia!
