Hi, guys. This is something I've been wanting to ask for a long time. I' ve seen this "title" for the first time associated to Adama Drame, recently. After that I also found it associated to one or two balafon masters. Is this a djeli term?

Well, seems sometimes I have the habit of posting the question here at the forum before I actually do the proper research.

My second guess: a muslim term. It designates a person that has done the pilgrimage to Meca, it seems. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hajji

I've even run across it as a surname (Alhaj or Elhaj or El-Hajj) on occasion, though the folks with that name were from the Middle East.

You are right, though - it means someone who has gone on the Hajj.
