in conakry, guinea, one in four kids works to help support the family and for many, home is on the streets, where they too often are prone to abuse, violence, prostitution and other exploitation.
tinafan association began as a unicef initiative to help keep kids off the streets. they learn acrobatics and get one proper meal per day. they get support through the daily problems they face and receive a safe place to sleep and hang out. the kids perform and must rehearse daily to stay in peak form. recently the service has extended to include some tutoring to make up for the lack of schooling these kids have received, as well as the opportunity to learn music and play for the acrobats.
the goal for the future is to build relationships between tinafan and world renowned circus companies to take the association higher and to give the kids a dream to look forward to.
