Yes :) On the other hand, most people do appreciate schools, roads, hospitals, police force, water supply, and a handful of other services. You take some, you lose some...

Cheers,

Funny enough i got the advice to take phones from a friend who had been there before and said they really need mobiles and any electronic things i might have lying about. When i first got there i enquired about a drum and was quoted the usual high prices about £150 which didnt really appeal to me as i have already done the djembe quest and aquired some good drums which didnt come cheap about £220 a pop for the 2 good ones i own.
After seeing two old shells in the workshop one was huge made from mango the other one is the one above made from lenke. I didnt have a huge djembe and wanted to scare my teacher when i came back from this holiday lol. So one night i went to my room and got both of my shiny brand new in a box mobiles and put them on the table in the compound and said lets talk about djembes again.

In my mind i thought hmmm i wonder if they will swap these two phones and maybe a little bit of cash for that lenke shell skinned up ? I sat and said nothing as the phones were passed around and examined.

The next thing that was said was "OK HOW MANY DJEMBES DO YOU WANT FOR THESE PHONES ?"
I paused and pretended to think about it lol "hmmm well i was thinking 3 but as you are my good friends now how about that massive mango shell gathering dust and the lenke one in goat the other in cow" They were more than pleased with this deal.

Over the next few days i helped them skin the drums as i wanted to know how it was done. That was hard work didnt realize how much work goes into it especially when you think its nearly ready then all of a sudden something breaks and you are back to square 1 again.

Was a good experinence and both drums sound great. As for bringing them home it didnt cost me anything as i travelled light and left most of my clothes and things i had taken there with my new found friends who really needed it.

Sorry for being curious.

You are saying that you bought 2 djembes in bags, in the airline as 2 checked baggages, right, so no costs.

Cool! What a great deal!

Adam, I brought a drum back from Mali, too. I just stuffed it into a duffel bag, packed some clothes around it and checked it. No problems and no charge.

Love,
Rachel
