that was taken from his mali camp several days ago. sidiki is great. it would have been a ripping camp with many participants coming from belgium and france - the students would be of a relatively high level.

I was there! this video was made in Sanankoroba, Wassoulou, near Guinea, the village of Sidiki's family. We spend a week there, with 20 toubabou's from Israel, Netherlands, Belgium, Australia, Switzerland, and Norway. Thanks to all the solar-charged lights we brang we could play every evening for the villagers and ourselves, without starting the generator. In the village there was no electricity, and only water from a well. (Off course we brought our mineralwater)
Members of the National Ballet of Mali where there with us to play, teach and accompagnie the danceclasses. So at least the level of the musicians was high. Dance and drummingclasses were divided in intermediate and advanced groups. The advanced djembé class was for me at a good level. For me it worked like I could play everything what was taught during the lessons, and I was very lucky having recorded everything. Because it was for me too much to remember, it gave me inspiration for months/or even a year....We worked on solophrases, dununpatterns and accompagniements of Dansa, Kassa, Sunu, Kolokodugu, Garankédon, and later with other teachers in Bamako also on the great rhythm 'ngomba, Dekou dekou, Wassolonka, Wolosodon and djandjigui. Classes were 3,5 hours a day, in the begining only from Sidiki, later he also invited Madou Fané, soloist of the National ballet, and Modibo Konaté, also of the Ballet. He even arranged a workshop with Petit Adama Diarra, which was great. We had the possibility of playing on weddings every sunday, we visited several parties, it was a great experience! I can cope with the cold in Europe, just by looking at pictures, listening the soundfiles, playing my new djembé, watching all the bogolan and other clothes..... After the workshop I left for Ségou, the festival sur le Niger which I can recommend also. Presentations of all the peoples who live in Mali, with their particular styles of percussion and music, and lots of bands. Almost all the Malian stars appeared there, Salif Keita, Baaba Maal, Habib Koité, Nahawa Doumbia, even Sékouba Bambino played after vears of absence on the African stages. A great trip.
