Pyramid arrangement from Mini-Guinea, San Diego, May 2010

Here is the arrangement for the second half of the pyramd. This excludes Sira and Djaa, which are the first two rhythms. The ones in the recording are Djansa, Macru, Fe 3, and Denadon. The recording doesn't have any solos, only the arranged breaks. Obviously, for the performance, the rhythm sections will be much longer because that's where people play their solos.

That recording is from a rehearsal two or three days before the performance, where yourself, Jeremy, Kahlil, Monette, and Tara were playing djembe. The speed on that recording is 135bpm.

I just went back to my recording of the performance, and things were a little bit slower then: 130bpm.

Cheers,

Michi.

Well, Mamady kept saying that he wanted us to put up a bit of a show for the audience, so I figured I had better try and meet expectations ;)

Cheers,

Not such a big deal... At the end of my solo, I played a roll, finished with a flam and then mimed a bad back, stumbling around for a bit. Then I approached Tara and mimed whether she could help me out and drum for me because my back was out, and then did the same with Linda. The three of us stood side by side and did a short solo we worked out beforehand. That was the contribution from the Australian contingent to the camp :)

I actually wore an Australian flag t-shirt, and Tara and Linda had draped an Australian flag around their bottoms. Plan was to properly wave the flag :) Unfortunately, Mamady vetoed having the flag on the ladies' bottoms before the performance, so that bit didn't come off as planned ;)

Cheers,

Michi.
