Have a look at the new video from KSK system krush with some beautiful traditional Malian drumming with Taga Sidibe. Have you seen this type of djembe before? Apparently they play them in Wassolo.

Sogoninkun djembes have such a distinct sound. Are they usually played by the lead djembe? Do you find them in other areas of Mali or even Guinea?

hello guys,
why do you call the "sogoninkun djembes"? have you heard people calling them that way in Mali? Or is it because a rhythm by that name is often played on small djembes?

I think the djembes were even smaller in many regions (in Hamana and Gberedu for example). Or, to be more careful, many drummers played even smaller djembes in many regions. It has come to an end in many places due to influences from the capitals (and maybe Bouaké...).

Anyway, I would like to learn about the specificity of these djembes!

as far as i know, in wassolon they use a specific jembe for the sogoni fetes. the ones i've seen pictures of are very small...

Thank you for posting the KSK video. It is absolutely stunning. I love the vocals, the drumming, the musicality of it. Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous.

And Oh. My. God. I NEED a set of Nido ksing ksing, LOL. The absolute bomb. They sell Nido here in the states. I am going to have to build a set!!!!

Can't wait for this film.

Will do. I think a set of tin snips, a little bit of small gauge rebar and some metal rings and we would be in business. Love 'em!

The only bummer is that here in the states, the big cans of Nido are pretty expensive. Guess I'll have to drink a ton of coffee, LOL.

(My favorite Malian breakfast involves instant coffee with Nido and sugar, eggs and french bread. Come to think of it, it is my favorite breakfast period.)
