Michi,

the notation from Fadouba doesn't match what they are playing with Mamady. Maybe that's why it's named mix kala. This version of Mamady is great, though.

the version on koumbagna's album seems to be binary.

Yes, they are not the same. The notation I posted for Fadouba's Kala is accurate though.

Anyone have notation for Mamady's version?

Cheers,

Michi.

it seems quite simple

dunumba
8..c..c..c.. (the 8 is that double stroke that isn't quite a flam)

sangban
oo.oo.oo.oo

kenkeni
c...ooc...oo

djembe accomp
8.st.ts.s.sss.st.ts.s... (the 8 here stands for the bass-flap that opens

as for bells, all I hear is a bell line that marks the 12 beat subdivision, seeming this to be a 12/8 rhythm.

I don't know if this notation is useful or clear. on the dunduns, the pulse of the quaternary cycle is subdivided in 3 - that makes the 12 beats. For the djembe, it's subdivided in 24, being this 24 a binary subdivision of the 12 beat cycle.
