tightening/ tuning drum with different string weave

Postby hello77 » Mon Apr 11, 2011 8:13 pm

Hi,
I just got a djembe about a year ago while I was in moracco, and I'm pretty new to drumming in general fyi. The drum is ceramic and I think it's goat skin on top, I'll attach a photo. So anyway, a friend was fiddling with the drum last night and accidentally loosened the strings, so it now sounds crappy. But i'm not sure how to tighten it because it doesn't seem to be a mali weave. Was wondering if anyone knew how to tighten this weaving pattern, or if I should just restring it to the Mali weave--only thing is I don't want to rip the skin or anything-- if you look at the photo, you'll see that a sinew-like string is weaved through holes in the skin, and the nylon vertical strings are wrapped around that. Can anybody help, Thanks!
