Cinch Tuning

Postby dleufer » Mon Jul 13, 2009 4:54 pm

Hey guys,
A friend of mine came across this website http://www.everyonesdrumming.com and although the djembes they sell are very low quality and overpriced they do use an intruiging tuning method which they call "cinch tuning".
Here's a link to a picture of it

This isn't very detailed but the concept seems very interesting. If it was done properly it seems like it would allow for very quick tuning and very even tuning also.
Anyone tried it out?

I've reheaded two of these drums the "correct" way, one being the Jim Donovan series . The cinch tuning is as bops said...a marketing tool. The fact is that you cannot get the tension you need in order to get a nice sound. And once you get it as tight as you can, and it still isn't sounding good... after a day or so it loses tune.

Proper tuning on those shells helped a lot, but the drums still sounded very tinny and almost like a remo.

Then again...
These drums are not marketed towards the professional drummer or even the African drumming student, I get the feeling they are marketed more towards the camp fire jammers and the circle drummers, of which, most would love the light weight easy tuning drums.
