Yup thats exactly what i did the second time around, i put the drum on my glass table and kept marking the high spots where the paper doesnt slip under. the bearing edge is now nice and even. but i thought having such a flat surface lets the skin sit better and the sound from leaking, the more i round the edge in, the smaller the rings ill have to get to. coming from the ivroy coast i thought they knew what they were doing so i also didnt want to change the edge much. should i have a little flat or round the whole thing in and over? i like keeping the straight drope off on the inside heard it also helps the sound.

Re: Viberating sounds and i know why

Hi all, I remember the first time i encountered the "Buzz". drove me crazy and i did not have far to go. it is one of two things, there actually could be a piece of fat on the underside of the skin, get rid of it if it is there , if it still does it you will have to take the head off and redo the rim. What happens is part of the inside of the bearing edge is sticking up to high so when the skin leaves the top of the rim it vibrates off of the high spot. I would not worry about sanding it to much, all you need to is make the rim look like your thumb. the palm side being the outside and the nail side the inside. i actually round off the inside a touch also. if the head is really wavy you can sand it on some concrete outside that has a broom finish on it, a smooth surface concrete will not work. you might want to lay some sort of straight edge on the concrete because even though it looks flat it might have a dip in it which you will sand into the head. a little wavy wont make the buzz sound, it is the shape of the rim itself
