Dark brown in the dark area and white in the spotted area. The goat was basically all brown, except for a white band running around its midriff.

Cheers,

Here is a pretty skin on my latest drum from Wula (see posting in Show off my axe). This skin did not shave very well, I am assuming this goat was over the hill and gnarly!! Anyway, pre-shave it was spotted, so I was fairly confident of it coming out with a pattern.

I got a penchant for spots, they give character.

Enjoy.

Different. Not like goat, and not like cow. Somewhere in between, closer to a thick goat skin than a thin cow skin. There is a little ring there right now too. I haven't played the skin in yet, and I don't think it's at its final pitch yet. I'll post a sample in a few days when I think I have dialled it in.

It ended up sounding bloody awesome. Very, very nice indeed, with enormous body in the tones and a beautiful overtone series in the slaps. Unfortunately, it got that sound only under extremely high tension; at lower tension, it sounded OK, but not great.

Sadly, I didn't make that recording when I should have. The skin popped overnight earlier this week :-(

Calf skin next on that drum (because I happen to have one sitting around in the garage).

Just skinned these to beauts. Still have to clean them up a bit, but I love their look simply as they are!

Skins Courtesy of Shorty. I gotta say, with Shorty I NEVER feel like I'm getting 'bottom of the barrel, B-grade' skins. They're always awesome quality. To get works of art like this sure is nice! Sure makes me proud to hand it to the drum's owner. How's that for a plug.
