Hi there! I was wondering if anyone could aid a chap like me with advice on skinning a Malawian drum. It looks simple, but I'm not sure. It appears that the skin was stretched over the drum and tied off tightly (no rings). Then once dry, pegs were hammered into the side, and the excess skin cut off. Am I on the right track here? Maybe I can use the ledge and a spare ring to apply tension using a vertical weave.
It also seems like there's a 2nd layer of skin around the edge with the grain of the hair going UP! This is definitely an experiment compared to skinning a West African djembe...
You're help would be appreciated before I dive in too deep!
