I got mine from Rhythym House drums. Its a nice shell a little oval (I am nit picking here).

Since Iroko is soft, I put some small dents when I was re heading it and using the tool. Then start putting a wedge and cloth between then everything went fine.

Since its light I am thinking of using it whenever I have to stand and play :-)

Here is an old photo with old head. The new head that is drying now is horse :flex:

Seems to be alot of IC copies in Burkina, though often the wood may come from IC... Easier to bribe your way around...

It seemed very soft in the dry stage, like a thick goat. When I soaked it it behaved much like a thick goat again, a little softer than goat actually.

I pulled the rings down on the wet pull to 1/2" below the top of the bearing edge (In case it dries and doesn't stretch that much). I am waiting for it to dry and then will do the dry pull and update here.

Dramane Kone has made me a few AMAZING sounding Ivory Coast drums that he chose from Motherland Music in Culver City, CA. I wish I had pics, but they won't do the drums justice, they all sound so crazy, some headed with goat, some with cowskin. You can see the shape of some of those drums that either myself or Dramane are playing in my Youtube page davidjembe. http://www.youtube.com/davidjembe

Other than Motherland Music, DS and Shorty have sweet Ivory Coast shells too. Shorty specifically has a few Ivory Coast carved Lenke djembes that sound reallllly Nice! :) I just ordered one and am lookin forward to Dramane hooking it up!!

Hope this helps, contact Dramane directly or Dan @ Motherland Music about Ivory Coast shells!

Motherland: Call the store!! The website is under construction!!

Have a great long weekend playing music.........

15"!!! That must be getting very close to "too big". I assume you are going to turn that into a bass djembe? (I can't see a drum that size reaching solo pitch without the skin breaking.)

I'd love to see pictures!

Cheers,

Michi.

a 15" outer with about a 13" inner D. it'll be a solo drum for sure...are there any other kind?

iroko shells are cut slightly thicker than other trad. hardwoods. the inner D matches 2 of my other drums.

And still are much lighter :-) my 13.75" weighs only 12-13 lbs.

OK, 13" playing surface is large, but not excessively large.

it'll be a solo drum for sure...are there any other kind?
