which album? i love midnite and i love kora!

there's an afro reggae group out here in santa cruz fronted by Karamo Cissoko on kora, ibou ngom on percussion, mbor faye on drums and then some horns, keys, bass etc. They go by Koubemba...

Koubemba sounds great, I have always liked Ibou's sound and style. The Midnite album is "For All." In total, it's definitely not my favorite, but I was listening to it now when I mentioned it and I do appreciate the incorporation of the kora for sure.

man....that stuff is oooollllld schoool... that's gotta be one of the first malian djembe CDs released.

I still love to listen to Mamadou Kante's CD. I studied with him for a couple months in 2003. He and Abdoul Doumbia are the only djembefolas that I am aware of that have released versions of Dogon drumming on their CDs. Kante’s CD sounds like it was recorded in the same small room that he held classes in at Carrefour des Jeunes where Sega Sidibe has an office. One of my favorite young djembefolas, Moussa(ni) Camara, who now lives up in Nevada City, CA, was one of his main apprentices at the time.
