Visa for Senegal

Postby michi » Thu Dec 08, 2011 12:49 am

I've just been informed that the scheduling for my return flight from Guinea to Dakar has changed. I am now getting a 26 hour stop-over in Dakar. This means I almost certainly won't be able to check through my luggage (backpack and one or possibly two djembes).

I'm faced with hanging around Dakar airport for 26 hours… Can anyone tell me what the airport is like and whether that's even remotely possible?

The alternative is to get a visa for Senegal. I've been told that it costs a cool $350 for the visa… Even if I were willing to pay that, there is not enough time left to arrange for a visa now.

Anyone know whether it's possible to get an overnight visa on arrival, so I can find a place to sleep for a few hours?

Thanks,

Michi.

Wow that sucks. How's the political situation in Guinea these days? I think you were a bit concerned a few weeks ago?

Who are you flying with? AirMaroc provided really nice accommodations at no charge for a long layover in Morroco. Maybe they just took pity on me because I looked lost and confused. I was ready to hunker down for 20 or more hours and stumbled into their office at the airport. After some fumbled communications on my part I was being whisked away to a nearby hotel. It's worth asking.

Are you Australian, Michi? somewhere I read something about your German roots, in that case you don't need visa. When you're Aussie then you need quite a lot of paperwork, invitation etc. I know enough Senegalese people to help you with that, but it's a lot of hassle for one day... The airport is not so bad, but for 26 hours.... I hope you will find something!

Hey, that's awesome! I was told by the travel agent that I'd need a visa. But I just looked it up, and you are right. I'm travelling on a German passport and won't need a visa. (The travel agent should have told me that, seeing that they know what passport I'm travelling with…)

Thanks for the heads-up, I really appreciate it! :)

Yay, Michi. Much better to leave the airport and chill in Dakar for a day.

Beerfola, Air Maroc gives you a hotel room for layovers longer than 12 hours. I believe it is actually some sort of regulation, so Michi, you might ask your travel agent if you can have a hotel for that crazy layover.

Have a great trip!!!!

Thanks for the tip, Rachel!

My travel agent is working on that already, but it appears to be difficult. Just reaching the airline is a problem due to the 10-hour time zone difference.

But it's good to know that I'll be able to leve the airport and be able to sleep in a hotel overnight!
