Here's an interesting update from Reuters with a bit more background. It's not clear what the border closing means, also the article mentions a junta and talks a bit about tension within the ranks of the military.

Does anyone with some first hand experience of Guinea know if its safe and a good idea to go to Guinea despite the trouble that is there. My dream is to get to Guinea one day but I would be very upset if this political situation gets in the way. I was planning on going there in 2012.

I saw that Mamady's camp has been cancelled because of this. Hopefully there are other options there... its such a shame for the country and for us as well!

I was just speaking with a Guinean friend whose family is in Conakry. She said that things are pretty crazy right now; a lot of sporadic gunfire can be heard throughout the city and there is a 7 pm curfew.

Re: The Elections in Ivory Coast & Burkina

Man, its elections all round here.. I didnt even realise Blaise Campraore had got into power again in Burkina (or even there was an election), how is it that a guy who murdered one of the countries most popular leaders ever (and his personal friend) being held up as a mediator for peace in the region..

Ivory coast has strong religious and ethnic divides which makes it potentially less stable than Guinea.

Is there something in the water? Maybe it's time to learn the kpanlogo in Ghana?
