Does anyone think it would be a good idea to have someone volunteer to share info about a rhythm before we choose it as rhythm of the month?
I said I'd nominate Kawa IF someone with some background info offered to share it. Maybe (and hopefully) that will still happen during the month but I think it would be better to stick to more basic rhythms where more people could contribute rather than choosing more unusual ones like Kawa or Takosaba unless someone offers the share some info. I'd love to choose Takosaba because I'd love to learn more about it but I won't nominate it, I'm waiting for someone else to do it!

So please, if you've got the Kawa know-how, spread it around!

Hi, I have been working the Kawa a bit recently, but am really busy right now.
Are you saying you're disappointed with what's been shared so far on Kawa? To me it's not a very out of the ordinary rhythm and seems quite wide spread.

I take your point about some rhythms being more in the public realm of knowledge. How ever, I would argue that highlighting lesser know rhythms, puts them more out into global consciousness which will therefore benefit us in the future. What do ya reckon?

it is natural that the more widespread rhythms will often bring wider participation, but that is also dependent on people's willingness to share their knowledge. therefore two people who are passionate about kawa and share all their knowledge can cover more on that rhythm than 10 people who know the fundamentals of a widespread rhythm such as soli.

having said that, daniel's suggestion to try to first gauge the level of knowledge before voting for it is not a bad idea. i wouldn't want that to hold us back from exploring lesser known rhythms though. let's keep in mind that people can add to those discussions at any point, even months or years down the track.

One thing I would appreciate is to see some rhythms discussed here for which material is not readily available. After all, if there are three DVDs with that rhythm out already, plus extensive coverage in books and such, we are just rehashing what's out there already.

Cheers,

Michi.

agreed. but that's where we're at with things. others might feel differently. there are different layers of information. for instance, dvds cover the basics of mendiani, but we covered a lot more, and could have gone still much further with it.
