This shell was $200, chopped a bit to much inside the bowl but I will work with it.

Thanks Dugafola, I have to wipe them down, and oil them up! Make them look all pretty :) I am going to attempt rounding the bearing edge of the one on the bottom, it's quite sharp there. I also have a few cracks on the inside so I am going to Elmer's cure those up a bit... Any pointers Duga?

depending on the severity of the crack, elmers' wood glue or super glue with saw dust can do the trick. if it's a big burly crack seen from inside and outside, there are ways to address it. i'll let one of the other drum builders chime in on that one as my expertise is limited to fixing little hair line cracks in my edge.

My little bougarabou...

I bought it from my Ghanan teacher in London in 2004. It came with quite a thick skin on it (cow i think) which i replaced just over a year ago with the extremely thin velum. It's well sweet!

I only really play 10 inch drums as i like 'em better than the bigger ones. I also prefer bougarabous to djembe as i feel they have a much richer sound and sustain a lot better which is something i really like. Bougarabous are lovely drums with a thick skin on but are totally awesome when you put the thinnest skin you can find on.

Here is my latest axe. Very happy with it :)

It's one of the Mamady Keita Signature Series Djembes. The shells are personally selected by Mamady. The drum maker is Jeremy Tomasck from Belgium. It's a limited edition of 40 drums. I bought number 2, made of Djalla. (Kelvin from TTM Singapore snatched #1 :) )

My apologies for the poor image quality. All I have at the moment is the camera in my iPhone.

Cheers,

Michi.

Nice one, looks quite the same as the ones Jermey bought in the San Diego camp. The carving style specially.

Congrats on the TTM certification !

Nope, not certified yet... This is the certificate that comes with the drum. To get a certificate for the drummer, you have to spend more than just money ;-)

nice one, michi. i have one smaller djala which i like a lot. is yours a little on the heavy side? i would personally have prefered the signature burned-in than have it done with metal work, but i guess bling is hot right now ;)

Weight is average: 10.3kg (22.7 US ponds.). It's well balanced too. When I play standing up, it hangs at just the right angle; not too shallow, not too steep.

Cheers,

Michi.

Expensive: €1,000.00 plus shipping. They are collector's items, so the price is up there.

They sound nice though :) Here is a sound clip:
