@ bubudi: I don't think anyone "forgot" about Pres. Obama. The point was more about women in high office... :)

BTW, happy belated pride weekend Ubba. I personally don't see the purpose of posing the question you're posing.

I had a wonderful in when reading the question posted here, "should whites be drumming and dancing"? If one has to ask why I posed the question they may never understand my reasons. You state that people are more accepting in the States and by the article you quoted we can believe that half of the U.S. population now accepts me more than before, that leaves 155 MILLION U.S citizens that find me objectionable, some would actually like to see me killed or done harm to, this feeling is global and to be sure a heavy burden to carry throughout ones life.

The U.S., with all those loving people came to liberate Iraq but in my view nobody was liberated and in the end gays were slaughtered more freely than before, Shiite cleric Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani has issued a violent death order against gays and lesbians on his Web site, according to London-based LGBT human rights groups OutRage." Sistani answered, according to OutRage, "Punished, in fact, killed. The people involved should be killed in the worst, most severe way of killing." when the loving gays marked for death ran to the loving Americans for help, they were laughed at...we are funny are we not, especially when being beaten or killed. Again I shall say, there are few countries where I could be openly gay country wide and hold my boyfriends hand or give him a kiss without the fear of violence, not just in West Africa but most of the world, so why shouldn't I speak up and where should I not speak up. Our problems are small if they are not your own, if you have not been forced to carry some of its weight, I can only wish that you feel it the way I have lived it, some will take this to heart others not but if only one person truly hears me, than I can rest a little easier.

Any other gay drummers out there from any country in the world may email me on here to speak about their feelings and we can keep it private or just sit together and have a drumming session. Naturally this invitation is open to all but from now on I shall only reply to private emails pertaining to this "Gay Subject Matter", thanks to all who have replied and given the subject some thought.

Hey - I think the subject/topic is *very* valid, and hope this will serve as a wake-up call for many.

Prejudice is prejudice is prejudice, no matter what color/religion/sexual orientation/age/gender/nationality (et. al.) the person or group of people who is/are battling it. (Bad grammar there, but you get the idea. :))

Music is music; dance is dance - they are created by all human beings, and belong to all, imo.

best,
e.

firstly, the saying about the djembe having no borders holds true in this subject as well. I can't even begin to count the number of GLBT students & teachers I have encountered. The second point is that, in nature, we have varying degrees of sexuality, even some species that can change their gender! The djembe masters always say to study NATURE. Nature is symbiotic with the djembe. The djembe communes with nature. The question is a no brainer. Anyone who thinks that folks of different orientations cannot play djembe do not know the djembe.
