Brian,
You may want to search the site. There's been quite a bit of discussion on recorders. I just purchased a Sony PCM-M10 a few weeks ago and really like the recording quality. It has long battery life and can record in MP3 as well as PCM, and uses 16GB micro SD, so you can record a lot of music regardless of the bit rate. Also, it has the ability to slow down/speed up the recording on playback, which can be handy for learning new rhythms. The Zoom H2 and Olympus LS-10/11 have their fans as well.

Evan

The links Evan mentioned within this community are:

social/digital-audio-recorders-t781.html

recording-and-stage-setup/new-digital-audio-recorder-comparison-t2449.html

Within the last link you´ll find sound-samples of a lot of different actual recorders. Just make up the decision of your own!

There is a new field-recorder which might be interesting too: Roland R05 (introduction on youtube e.g.)

I use and like my Zoom H2 which, although it is an elder model (in the range of field-recorders), contributes to my needs and this first of all is a good recording quality with the built-in microphones.
