Wow... I'm looking forward to this James, the one with Taylor was great.

What does she see in contemporary Africa Vs. the rest of the world in regards to women and drumming? This may be a huge question, but has it been her experience that younger generations of women have pursued djembe and dundun in Africa differently than in other countries?

Also, how differently have the younger generations taken to the musical traditions in Africa compared to the rest of the world?

I'm keeping it broad in terms of "Africa" of course, but she may have more to say from one country to the next.

Good luck, and thanks for these interviews. Great project.

I'd be interested in her experiences mixing traditional WAfrican styles with afro-cuban and "pop" sensibilities.

Also if she is interested in talking about TTM. I'd like her take on the recent changes going on in the testing as well as the structure of the TTM organization (teacher/schools/special events etc)

Other "softball" questions:
Favorite CD
Favorite song
Favorite rhythm
Favorite place to eat in Conakry

Just off the top of my head...

What outside of the african world has influenced her drumming the most.

What is it that she would like to change about her drumming, if any.

What is the best place she has drummed.

What does she think of the new style of playing among the new generation.

What does she consider the most important aspect of an African ensemble, consodering that all are important in their own respects.

It will be coming out soon, will see if I can get it done this weekend.

Yes :(

For what it's worth, consider changing to a Mac. For video editing and such, it runs rings around Windows and, with OS X Time Machine, you get a backup every hour, so that's the most you ever lose.

Cheers,

Michi.

This is a general perception among consumers, though not at all a true statement IMO. It all depends on your software. You can set up mac/pc boxes that are identical on the inside. The OS itself isn't doing the video editing, so I don't know how you could say that one does it better than the other. Mac software has no fewer bugs than PC software...it's just code. There are plenty of backup tools available for PC as well.... oh boy, I better stop now. :uglynerd: :)

James, great job on the interview! Keep em coming.

You might want to invest in flame-proof underwear!

I happen to agree with you. "out of the box" Mac tends to be slightly better than PC's but once you get into investing in software, there is little difference between the two. I am fully proficient in both operating systems. At this point,I hardly notice the difference when I switch from one to the other.
