Definitely the cost. Seems outrageously high to me.

Yes, not cheap. It's a collector's item.

I doubt that this would buy you happiness. But it'll buy you a very nice drum :)

ONE of us should get one of those drums. Here's the plan. How many members do we have? Everyone put 1 dollar (pardon me--one Euro) in the pot, and have a drawing. Winner gets a Mamady djembe. I am not joking. Can this be done, moderators?

Not enough members here to get 1000 Euro (plus shipping) together, unless people are willing to risk a lot more than 1 Euro.

actually we have a lot more than 1,000 members, but out of those, it's hard to say how many regularly visit the forum (many without posting or even logging in) and of those, how many would be interested in entering something like this.

i'd be more interested in a combined fundraiser, where the proceeds go to charity, and we also have a winning prize (e.g. the mk signature series drum) drawn at random as well. how about a tax deductible contribution of $10 each, all of which will go to a charity in west africa? (potentially as much as $40,000 raised)?

I like the idea of doing some sort of raffle. But the tax deductible status might be difficult. I don't know what the exact laws are (and they will vary from country to country), but I suspect that you would have to create a registered charity first. And then the question is whether I can make a tax deductible donation as an American to a charity that is registered in Australia, or vice versa.

Having said this, it might be worth looking into though. Maybe it's actually easier than I think...

Cheers,

Michi.

we could look into it, but i say it matters very little if a $10 donation to charity is tax deductible or not!

i have an idea or two... watch this space!
