Mamady Ijalit Keita

Who is Mamady Ijat Keita? I keep coming across him because he's one of few African artists to have mp3s for sale on Amazon. Is he "Petite Mamady", or just yet another Mamady Keita?

He is not Petite Mamady, as far as I know. Certainly, the video footage I've seen of Petite Mamady and suggests that he's a different person--the footage doesn't match the image on Mamady Ijalit Keïta CD:

BTW, it's Mamady Ijalit Keïta. (Note the spelling of his middle name).

Cheers,

Michi.

there must be thousands of mamady keitas in west africa. ijalit is not very well known although i recall the hype on his cd being impressive at the time. if my memory serves me right he is from kankan. a decent djembe player, but the sound quality is near unlistenable. save your money.

I agree--the CD is so-so only.

yea, haven't even heard a single tone... and the duns are real hard to make out. Who ever's promoting him is switched on though.

He's on Amazon and also Spotify.

No, that's not Petit Mamady.

What a strange image.... a Maasai woman standing in front of Mt. Kilimanjaro, and a cheap-o bongo, with the words Traditional Mandingue Rhythms. Cover art fail.

There are a couple of CDs out, or actually, I think it might be the same CD, but with different cover art. Both show Masai people.
