Hooray learnt my first solo!.

Postby wonderwebb » Fri Sep 17, 2010 2:51 pm

Feeling chuffed with myself managed to learn my first solo been playing for over a year now and it has taken quite some time for me to get this stage. I can play quite a lot of accompaniments but the solo has taken a while. It's strange because ive only studied and practised this rhythm for a week I nearly got there on other solos and rhythms but never quite fully. I think a lot of it has to do with the class that I have been going to recently the teacher is a good teacher who structures a way of learning the rhythm in probaly the best way I have been taught so far. Especially when changing phrases in the solo. My problem before was thinking to much about the next phrase in the solo and then in turn messing up the one I was playing and vice versa.

I think a lot also has to do with me not thinking to much and just singing the song in my head and trusting that the hands will do the right thing. I've even found that if I hit the wrong note it can still sound right if the timings ok lol where as before it would make me analyse what I had done wrong which is the worst thing to do at my stage as I haven't got time to think and play at the same time !

Now that I can play my first solo I think I will revisit some of the solos I gave up on or never quite got there with in the past .looking forward to my next class so I can play the solo I have learnt.
Just hope I can remember part 1 lol

that's right, overanalysing is the worst thing you can do. get the melody in your head and your hands will follow. repeat at slower tempo if you're making mistakes. cheers for the insight. sounds like your perseverance is really beginning to pay off.

Cool, well done!

It's good to practise by yourself, while listening to a recording of the rhythm.
