Great Festivals

Postby James » Fri Nov 26, 2010 11:06 am

So I know about the Festival sur la Niger and the festival of the deset (both in Mali).

What am I missing, I'm sure there's loads of other amazing festivals for the wish list?

I think they worked it that you can go from one to another over a month between mid january to mid february.. i.e. There is one per weekend, perhaps mopti and djene also..

The festival in Bolomakote in Bobo Dioulasso, Burkina Faso sounds great. Just missed it last time, its fairly grass roots and is organised I believe mainly by locals... Its a great initiative and warrants some support.. Its on over christmas..

This one looks pretty epic: Black World Festival

Also, Ouagadougou is home to FESPACO, Africa's largest and most celebrated film festival.

There's also a festival of dance and percussion in Conakry that's pretty interesting. It showcases all of the "junior ballets" from the capitol, and crowns a winner each year. It's usually in January.
