Steel Drums?

Postby EvanP » Sun Nov 27, 2011 4:30 pm

I've got a friend that's interested in learning steel drums (ok, not African, but from Trinidad so there's probably a W. African connection somewhere?) in SW Florida. Any suggestions on sources for drums and teachers?

Thanks,
Evan

Nor do I - but there are lots and lots of people from the Caribbean in south Florida, and I suspect it won't be all that difficult for your friend to find a teacher. (btw, folks from other islands, like Antigua, are playing steel pans too... the instruments have spread far beyond Trini.)

Thanks for the responses. I suppose it's like djembe--probably best to find a teacher and go from there. She met someone a while back that offered to teach her. That may be the best step at this point.
