hi paul, i haven't been able to find any instructional material on it, but from these videos you can see that the playing style is a lot more into the skin and moving sideways somewhat, in order to get different tones. the bowl shape gives the tones that wonderful bouncy quality reminiscent of tablas.

Thanks man.. They are really going for it in the second video.. the style is quite different.. In alot of the gigs I saw it really seemed as if one of the drums was holding a sanban like pattern (with alot of variation) and the other a more constant groove... Hypnotic stuff..

some friends of mine here are from Ouaga and they play the Bara as well.

not a whole lot of recordings with bara on them.

the burkina faso percussion DVD that was released a few years ago has some Bara playing on it.
should i shave my moustache?
