Thanks, Nate!

Love the sound and tuning of the bells in the audio on the WOFA disc, btw. (Wouldn't mind getting a set for myself...)

What the title of the CD and what label is it on? I'd like to track it down...

Thanks in advance for your help. :)

Edited to add... looks like the track was taken from this CD.

which is available on emusic.com, along with a live recording by WOFA titled "Iyo."

michi, i do believe we cross-posted. ;)

and thanks! (I think this was a case of "dueling keyboards," no?)

fwiw, "Borhomasi Fare" features 1 bell and a lot of low-pitched bass drums. The feel reminds me very much of Carnaval samba percussion ensembles from Brazil.

Yep, looks like it :)

It appears that the CD is out of print. I found two second-hand ones on Amazon UK. (Unfortunately, emusic.com refuses to do business with Australians...)

Buda Musique has a huge back catalog, but most of it is out of print... I think they're avoiding reissue costs by making most of it available via emusic.com.

michi - we have restrictions, too. There's tons of stuff on emusic that's only available to residents of certain parts of Europe.

Yes. It's quite archaic, really. In case of Australia, emusic.com won't do business at all, not for a single title. I would have thought that it wouldn't be so hard to come to an agreement where emusic.com and similar stores would pay royalties to the Australians for items sold to Australia. I guess we'll have to wait a few more years for that to happen...

Cheers,

Michi.

Onetreedrums wrote:I am pretty tolony refers to a bell ensemble in Guinea. My teacher, Fara Tolno, has mentioned this type of ensemble and wanted to arrange a peice like this for one of our performances back in the day. In the sound clip above there is certainly some duns and shakers, but the bells are the essence. Here is a video of what I have been told tolony is:

Wow! Thanks.. This is exactly the answer I had hoped for.

I suppose asking for some notation would be too much.... lol

The plastic sound I refferred to is (as I had suspected) a large flat bell played with the tips of two sticks. It gives a nice contrast to the lead bell doing the calls with the shoulder of the stick.
