dugafola was telling me that according to bolokada, the word dun in maninka refers to the bass sound, so there are probably others similar to the bambara words cemance and sanfe to refer to the other sounds.

I'm going to be re-doing this really soon, so if anyone has any revisions or ideas they were holding on to until the last moment. This is the time to crack them out :)

just for kicks we should add 'warra warra'. it's a term djembe masters use to refer to the fast style the youth are getting into. in the words of zoumana dembele, "every good percussionist can play warra warra warra! it has no depth, no subtleties."

Thanks for mentioning that, bubudi - I was wondering what it meant! :)

also, a question - is there any chance that there might be a FAQ for the site/board in the future? I was thinking that links to threads on commonly-asked questions might be a good idea.

yes, there are plans to use info from certain topics to make articles which will be featured in the resources section. this will include updating the existing glossary with all the info in this topic.

I've been making some changes to this:
http://djembefola.com/glossary.php

Still a work in progress and there may be a couple of mistakes in there... please let me know if you spot anything.

Instruments will be done seperately.

If you have any images that you think would go nicely with something in the glossary or in the instrument pages (when I do that) please email them to me james at djembefola dot com!

Thanks
James
