First of all want to sorry for my English-I'm from Ukraine.

I'm interesting if anyone can help me and give a text of Moribayassa song?
Also I'm searching for any other Westafrican songs with some links to hear how to sing it maybe...because when you read a text in book it's not enough , you also have to know the melody...

I'll be thankful for any info! Especially for Moribayassa

i have a book compiled by Poul Nas, but I don't know how to sing the song exactly. I'm not sure that the video I've found on yuotube is about this very text of Moribayassa song. or I'm wrong?

after 1:35 the song begins but I wonder what are the words that soloist sing after 2:05 and the dun players answer him : "Moribayassa". like a question-answer. Are these words traditional or it is a free improvisation? ) it's hard for me to understand them correctly. I saw this way of singing Moribayassa in couple of videos so I decided it's a traditional or common way to do it.
so what do you think?

I haven't come across call-and-response singing for Moribayassa specifically so far. But this style of singing is so common in West Africa that I suspect that it would pass for being traditional. After all, falling into call-and-response style would seem to be a perfectly ordinary spur-of-the-moment thing to do over there…

Sorry, but I can't help with the words in the call-and-response section. But, again, with many of these songs, you can make up anything you feel like singing at the time. The words for call and response are often freely improvised.

If you listen to Moribayassa on Mamady Keita's album Afo, you'll hear where the arrangement in the video comes from. This arrangement is what a number of people follow in terms of song structure as well as call and response.

Yes, that's right! I've found and listened to this track, so now I see that youtube video is a copy of Mamady 's interpretation of this rhythm. Poul Nas transcribed only second part of Moribayassa song. First part, the longest one, is missing. But now I fully understand how to sing it, except of first part of call-and-response ofcourse

finally I figured out what is the first part of the song. soloist just enumerate names of people who play Moribayassa now at the moment and his partners answer "Moribayassa".like: "Patrik nada-Moribayassa, Alex nada-Moribayassa,Joan nada-Moribayassa..." and so on ,until he count all the persons he want. it means Patrik(Alex/Joan...) has come to play Morribayassa.

Then the text that we see in Poul Nas's book begins.

I did transcribe MKs Moribayassa many years ago. In my notation is a lot of German text, though. Sorry, I cannot translate all this. But you can find the call and response in the notation along with the dununs, I think that will help ("pedro" was the soloist in our band, you can put in whoever is in yours). also, I put the cool 12/8 intro in this notation and a couple of solo phrases. To read it: Bass on djembe and on dunun is a square, a circle represents the ton on djembe and a hit on the sangban, a triangle is a slap or the kenkeni. whenever there is a diagonal through the symbol, it's a mute.

one more question,guys. does anyone know traditional solo for Moribayassa?
i use solo patterns from Balakulanya(Balakulandjan) because dunun parts in these two rhythms are almost the same except sangban part.
I think these solo patterns fit. but what do you think about this?

or should I start a new topic apart from "Moribayassa song"?

also, mamady sang it for me when he was in santa cruz last time...i forget what the context of the discussion was though...hmmm....

the same moribayassa song from Afo is used on Bolokada's new CD Djirraworro for his moribayassa sankaran track.

it's one of my favorites on the album.
