Dundunba on the ground?

Postby James » Sun Feb 05, 2012 3:52 pm

when playing ballet style, do you prefer to have the dundunba on the ground, or lifted up some how?

I would always have preferred it suspended, and I usually use a stand for this purpose, but a friend was telling me the other day that he prefers the sound on the floor.

I know what he means, the sound is very different. What do you think?

I notice it's on the floor in this video for example:

I prefer to lift them a bit now (we use 3 wooden 'legs' - just 3 lengths of pine stuck under the rings and tied all the way round) but it does depend on the duns - some seem to resonated more than others.

On the ground gives them more of a flat sound but then I've noticed some africans prefer a flat dundun than one that produces more of a note.

To me, it's more important to have them at the correct height.
