arrangement for gidamba (dyidanba)

Postby djembefeeling » Sun Dec 25, 2011 2:13 pm

hi everyone,

here's my present for Christmas: my new arrangement of Gidamba, better "Dyidanba" according to afoba, for my students and my upcoming school party in april. this is done with percussion studio. only one students will play the two duns (sangban on top of the dununba, the rest plays accompaniment and solo. any suggestions or do you like it this way?

cheers, jürgen

I think it is partly due to the sterility of Percussion Studio but, to be honest, the arrangement didn't really grip me. I quite possibly would change my mind if I could hear it live, when it comes alive, so to speak :)

yeah, jurgen, you should put the ensemble together and then make a recording. though I dig this thing you do, using PS to store material, experimenting creative ideas self-sufficiently. A nice tool, I would say.

I'll have to listen to your arrangement with more attention, before I can give a feedback

Thanks for posting this!

I do like the arrangement, but I miss having a full dundun section. Also, I think it would sound better if you had at least one djembe play accompaniment throughout, just sitting on Ka-DiKa. I guess the limited number of students is an issue here :)

Cheers,

Michi.

Indeed -- this and that we needed months of rehearsal time, and nobody wanted to play Ka-DiKa for half a year...

You should tell them the story that many masters tell: "When I was a lad, I had to play accompaniment for six years before I was allowed to play my first solo…" ;)
