Abondan

I'm not real familiar with this rhythm although it does seem to be one of the more popular ones. On Mamady's 4th DVD he says that for Abondan he is showing the simple technique. Is there a different version, or is he talking about the breaks? I love the feel of the rhythm, especially the dununs.

Thats been one of my favourites since I started years ago, although I only just recently learnt the Mamady K version.

I'm not sure about the techniques, I have the DVD, will have a look but the technique I have seen is short and pretty easy.

this is a nice piece of abondan.

mamady is playing in a very loose way, wich is delightful to see.

you probably have already seen it, it's the first video that appears on youtube.

Correct me if I am wrong, but it is at the 4:50 mark of the song Tiriba in the Wassolon album.

exactly.

I was just checking that and came here to say it. It's a much rougher version than the one on Sila Laka. The solo part, at the beginning, is awesome.

I can answer this question too, since I am in the same class with Bas: it's Moussé Dramé, our teacher from Senegal with Malian roots. Great guy, great djembefola with a great mix of tradition and modern ballet-techniques.
