Yes, Bruno, I find Sila Laka to be a great resource for songs too. That's probably the album I've learned the most songs from. I also really like Bolokada's CD called Morowaya. I love the song for Den Don on there, and that album has the lyrics and translations as well. I'd also love to hear what other albums there are out there with good singing and lyrics and translations included in the booklet. Also, does anyone have CDs with songs or know songs for Kakilambe and/or Sinte? Great thread you guys! I love how much it adds to the feeling in my groups when we sing the songs. I think it can really have a strong effect of pulling everyone together.

Thanks, Andrew. I'll look into that album you mentioned. Do you know the song Mayimbo? It goes with Kakilambe. Here are excerpts of it on Mandebala: http://www.mandebala.net/songs/kakilambe.php

This is taken from

http://www.reynders-bonhagen.nl/ritme/kakilambe.html

Maimbo, Maimbo imama

Maimbo Kaki Lambe keybou mbe (the "k" in "keybou" sounds gutteral)

Maimbo is a man's name. It was the name of an actual priest, but it is used as the generic name for the priest who officiates at the ceremony. The lyrics mean: "Maimbo, Maimbo we greet you/ Maimbo, greet Kaki Lambe for us."

The first recording is the great one from the Africa Djole Live album (Berlin 1978)

Hi everyone,
I figured I should not post entire songs from Mamady Keita and others' albums, so here are some short excerpts of some of the songs I like to sing. These are very accessible compared to lots of others songs I've heard over the years. If it's not okay to post the excerpts, let me know, and I'll remove them. Many of the songs come from the album Sila Laka from Mamady Keita. I definitely recommend buying it. It includes the songs, lyrics and explanation. I'd love to have lots of recommendations of similar albums by other drummers. I just ordered Morowaya by Bolokada Conde based on a recommendation here. Thanks Andrew! There are also lots of songs on Mandebala.net and Paul Nas's WAP, but with WAP I often find lyrics but can't always track down the melody. Enjoy!
