Travelling to Guinea in July or August

Postby Marc_M » Sun Oct 05, 2008 8:02 pm

I'm considering travelling to Guinea in July or August 2009 to study drumming for 3-4 weeks minimum. If others are interested or wish to post teachers or workshop info for this period, I would be really grateful.

Happy drumming.

I'd recommend going in the winter time to get away from the cold weather...

rainy season in west africa during the summer months and
there will be loads of mosquitos. Very hot/wet weather in july/august
best to go between oct and may if possible.

i would say instruments and accomodation is cheaper in the wet seaon cos no tourists.
i've been advised <in gambia+senegal> that there are much more local festivals in the rainy season, so you may see more cultural events and ceremonies. Vegetation is in full bloom too, so will be a pretty site. sounds like fun. enjoy the drummin.

Unfortunately, as a high school teacher, I am at an unforgiving school when asking for extra time off. The best I could do is put together two weeks at Christmas, so I don't think I have any choice but go during the summer or not at all. Thanks for the heads up on what to expect weather wise.

Cheers.
