Postby bubudi » Mon Aug 02, 2010 2:44 pm

this one should be a cracker, another cd/dvd of mamady's compositions, released by zig zag world & cristal records. filmed and recorded in 2009, it commemorates mamady's 50th year as a djembefola. musicians include prince diabate on kora, manu hermia (sax & flute) and the current members of sewa kan. due out in november this year.

Hi Bubudi !

Nice album. It's now released since October 11th. If you want to listen to it for free, you can follow this link :
http://www.deezer.com/fr/#music/mamady- ... mia-662644

You can also buy it on Amazon for less of 10$ (download).

This album is really nice with so much energy. Some people will say that it's not always "pure traditional manding music" with saxophone addition but I like it !

See you !

I've come across the album for download, but haven't been able to find a place where I can buy the DVD. Anyone carry it yet?

Thanks,

Michi.

Oh ?? It's a french website but it's strange that you couldn't see it.

You can try to go on DF.fr to see the article I wrote (with the Deezer player inserted in it), maybe it will work ...

the page shows up, but the audio files won't play (even with the player on df.fr) because they are zoned for france. it says 'sorry, you don't have access to this track from your country of residence'.

Oh no ... So bad ! This site (deezer) is great because they have nearly all the Mamady's albums. Never mind ... Have you some equivalents with good drums albums (maybe only visible in other countries) ?

For those who are frustrated at being in the wrong country I suggest you check out AveVPN, I have tried out their ultimate plan and it is really good.

Definitely sounds energetic but that sax is terrible in my opinion. When it comes in in Bele Bele it destroys the song.
I definitely don't have a problem with mixing sax or other instruments with djembe and dununs but that guy is playing some cheesy stuff. Something a bit more Fela Kuti-ish would work way better for me. I don't think I'll ever be able to take this seriously with the sax.

Ca manque le funk, mais Fela, il a le funk!
(It ain't got funk, but Fela, he got the funk)

Sorry for the dodgey French...
