hi,
just asking if everybody knows this documentary
from mamady's website:
"In 1994, contacted by Japanese producer Nonoue Katsuo, from Sponichi Creates, Mamady completed his first tour of Japan with his group Sewa Kan. The documentary film titled Mamady Keïta and 38 Little Hands follows Mamady to a tiny island in the far south of Japan, called Mishima, where Mamady takes 19 Japanese children under his wing to teach them the culture and music of the djembe. Together, Mamady and these 38 little hands travel north to perform in Japan’s largest cities but in the end must say a very emotional goodbye."
with n'toman, and I belive the rest of the first sewa kan formation, a brazilian and a senegalese, I don't know their names.
Includes the meeting between Mamady and the japanese taiko drummer Eietsu Hayashi, the founder of Kodo, a world famous taiko drums group.
There can be found a lot of links to download the film, through a search on the title.
I think, along with "Djembefola", this is a very nice film to understand the person behind the master, in his solitude and energy.
The theme "Mishima", from the Hakili album is certainly related to that encounter.
For those who haven't seen it, I recommend it, for what my saying's worth.
