I know Carl has read this and seems to like it. Anyone else had a look at Griots and Griottes?

I've had a copy for a while and like it very much.

My only complaint (a small one) is that the writing style is a little ... dense, maybe? There's terrific material in the book, and I really like the author's ideas and the thoroughness of his research, but it's not easy reading.

(I have heard that the author is working on a book about women's music from W. Africa... possibly from Guinea? Am a little foggy on the details - and looking forward to the book!)

Agreed, definitely academic reading... which was a big plus for me!
