Salut de londres! Hi from London

Postby dkcyeo » Thu Nov 18, 2010 8:45 pm

Hi folks,
I've never played the djembe before but would really love to! I play the guitar, so I think have a bit of musicality, but have never played any sort of drum. I live in Brixton in South London, UK and I'm pretty sure there'll be some people around here that play.

I travel to West Africa a lot with work - my next trip will be to Burkina at the start of December and I'm going to spend a few extra days there to explore. My plan is to head to Bobo-Dioulasso and see what I can find out there. Does anyone have any tips on where I might buy a djembe or recommendations on someone who could teach me a few things to start with?

Ta!
Dan

Salut!

Hi

If you're looking for somewhere in London there's Andy at Gold Coast Drums... http://www.goldcoastdrums.com/ who always has a large selection at his office up Holloway. Nice guy and good service. He'll probably be able to put you onto a teacher as well.

And there used to be a guy in Camden Market Stables. I moved out of London 3 years ago so haven't been there for a while but he always had a great selection of drums and gave lessons every weekend at a fairly reasonable price.

Hope that helps and welcome to drumming! :)

Hi,

I spent a few months in bobo its a cool place.. There is a big djembe maker called Adama in the grand terrain near the old mud mosque in the Dioullossaba region of town (its walking distance from the town).. He will have ready drums or shells they can skin for you.. Try to just deal with Adama..

There is a contact and a video for shiaka keita on this site if you can find it.. He lives in secteur 21.. Also shiaka deni is fairly well known, you could probably get on to him through this website
http://www.baragnouma.com/ they also sell great drums..
