Hafa Adai everybody, my name is Gordon and I'm from the Western Pacific island of Guam. I've been acquainted with the djembe for 4 years but have only recently started getting serious with it, learning proper technique and TRYING to learn some traditional rhythms. There aren't any teachers out here so my main resource for learning is by watching youtube videos
I think this site is pretty freaking awesome and I'm here in hopes of learning a little about the magical drum know as the djembe from all you djembe enthusiasts...Take care everyone, BYE!

Hey Gordon! I had a very good friend and amazing drummer living on Guam until last year. There are some great musicians out there, and I would encourage you to find a guy (I can't remember his name) who is a "Garifuna" drummer from Central America, but performs at some of the resorts there. I'll try and get you his info. He'd be a great person to play with.

Hey Gordon... The guy who you wanna try and hook up with is "Malo". He plays with a bunch of folks, but I think he's actually playing this weekend for some benefit show. If you ask around, you'll find him. It's a small island (as I'm sure you know).

Garvin, Thanks for the info about Malo! Theres a free concert today I'm gonna go to called "Festival of Fanihi" (fruit bat), reggae legend Clinton Fearon of the Gladiators will be headlining the event. I wonder if its the same benefit show that you're talking about. If not, you're right, this island is small and I'll find him soon enough.
