Hi guys,

I'm Mike, a french little djembe player. Actually I've been playing djembe and dununs for nearly 10 years. I also played piano in the past (for 12 years). Currently, I learn djembe with Mare Sanogo and dununs with Brahma Diabaté.

I really like this website and i've been surfing on it a lot without posting anything. First, because I'm french and that's not so easy. Second, I'm also laking time because I'm the webmaster of www.djembefola.fr.

I hope we will have nice discussions here and also that you will understand my poor english !
See you !

Bonjour, Mike!

Welcome to the forum. Don't worry about your English at all. We have lots of people for whom English is a second (or third or fourth) language.

mike,

thanks for taking the time to introduce yourself. you are very welcome here!

you're very lucky to be learning with such a master as mare sanogo. we need to see him on some videos on vimeo or youtube! are you planning on going to mali with him to deepen your understanding of malian percussion and culture? i know he is running a 4 week workshop in bamako in february.

it'll be great to have your input on what can be improved here (especially from your point of view as a webmaster, but also as a person who has been fortunate to study mande percussion for 10 years in france - far easier of course for malians, guineans, etc to communicate in the french language than in english, and also france has been exposed to west african drumming and dance for a lot longer than the rest of the non-african world).

very kind of you to say so :) especially given what i wrote above about the vast collective knowledge in france...

a tres bientot!

Hi Bubudi !

Thank you ! I know I'm lucky to learn with Maré and also with Brahma Diabaté who is my current model for teaching : a perfect mix between occidental and african way of learning.

I'm really interested in helping you developing DF.com as you helped me also in DF.fr with precise data which I need a lot. It's clear that we must work together and I discussed this point with James few months ago. But, we were so enthousiastic but our jobs took us away from these plans ... I guess, he told you few things we discussed about (and we may talk about that by pm). I also realized that I didn't put your site in my links ... bouuuuu ... This has been corrected immediately !

For the workshop, it's not decided yet ... That would be great !! I'm really ashame because I've never been to Africa ... it's time !!

See you !!

Dear Mike,

It IS time. Go!

I am heading to Mali for my second trip in January and I simply can't wait. This time I am bringing my 13 year old son, Noah, with me.

After playing djembe for 10 years, I think you will really appreciate being in Bamako.

(I am sorry you won't be there in January. I am having a big party for my birthday. I think it will involved a whole roasted sheep, LOL.)

Love,
Rachel
