Long-time hobbyist

Postby Bluejay » Sun Dec 26, 2010 9:57 pm

Hello all you drummers. As a djembe hobbyist, I divide my time between cruising the net for drumming news and information and actually playing my drum. I started playing ten years ago, and have done some performing with Madou Dembele while he was in the midwest. But now I do drum circles and take a weekly class with a local pro. I'm keeping my eye on Ubaka Hill's Million Women Drummers project with the intention of being one of those million, wherever I have to travel.

Welcome to the asylum! Can you elaborate on the Million Women Drummers project? I don't qualify ;) , but it sounds intriguing.

Very early planning stage so far. The event will take place in 2013, I assume in many locations around the globe. Here's the website: www.millionwomendrummers.com

As well as being a splendid musician, Ubaka also promotes the spiritual and healing sides of drumming. I did some workshops with her a few years ago, and I like her a lot.
